second Generation
Dan Sherman and his wife, Andrea have
purchased Northland Cycle and Fitness, located at 4584 N. High
Street. This will make it a second-generation family owned bicycle
shop. Dan's uncle, John Sherman in 1968, originally started the
business. Dan's father, Bob became a partner in 1974. bob became
the sole owner in 1984 and continued running the business. Dan
is the youngest of his sons and grew up working on and around
bikes. He started working at the shop in 1990 and was promoted
to manager a few years later.
Bob retired in September 2005. Dan
and his wife, Andrea, were given the opportunity to continue
running the family-owned business. They purchased the shop and
are proud to carry on the tradition, Their dream is to stay in
the Clintonville area and pass on the business to their three-year-old
son, Tyler. You may just find him on weekends riding his bike
with training wheels or "fixing" the bikes his way
in the back room.

MERITORIOUS PUBLIC SERVICE
Is awarded to Dan Sherman
On October 9, 2004, a physically handicapped male
was assaulted and robbed by several suspects who took items out
of his pockets and took his three-wheel bicycle, which was his
only means of transportation. The detective assigned to the case
exhausted all leads and was unable to locate the stolen bicycle.
Since the loss of the bike had such a negative impact on the
victim's quality of life, the detective contacted several bike
stores in an effort to obtain another three-wheel bicycle for
him.
Mr. Dan Sherman from Northland Cycling and Fitness was the only
store owner willing to assist the department in securing another
bicycle for the victim. After learning of the impact of the robbery
on the victim's life, Mr. Dan Sherman located an identical bike
and donated it to him. He also included front and rear lights
for the bicycle as well as a lock.
Mr. Dan Sherman is awarded the Meritorious Public Service Award
for his willingness to assist the police with community relations
and help the victim of a serious crime regain his independence.
His actions reflect great credit upon him and the citizens of
Columbus.
